Worm Castings

How to use YES Worm Castings:

• Houseplants:  Apply a 1/2" layer of castings to the soil surface, scratch it into the top inch of soil (making sure to avoid any shallow roots) and then water normally.  For outdoor established plants this top-dressing procedure is the same, just with the added note that you only need to work in the area of soil in an 8-12" radius from the plant stem. 

• Seed Starts and Transplants (spring):  Line the bottom of your furrow / hole with 1/2" - 1" layer of castings.  Insert seed / transplant, cover with soil and water normally.

• Summer:  Top dress plants as described above to help with water retention in the summer heat.

• Fall:  Before heavy frost, spread 1/2" of castings on entire garden bed or growing furrows.  This allows nutrients to submerge over the winter and early spring into the root zone to saturate it with the microbiology, nutrients, and minerals that plant roots need for an early spring growth spurt!

• Foliar Spray / liquid fertilizer: Place 2 cups of worm castings into a porous bag (pantyhose, cheese cloth, cotton bag, etc) and allow to soak in a 5-gallon bucket of de-chlorinated water (rainwater works great!) for 12-24 hours. Dilute the resulting "worm tea" 1:1 with water and spray diluted solution over entire plant including leaves and stems. Use "worm tea" to water plant's soil and add the soaked castings to soil surface.
